Christa breathed a sigh of relief, looking around the group for a moment as she downs the rest of her drink. She looks at the new card that floated around the table, "Ugh, fuck it. Higher."

Zade never broke focus from the play card field. "Yup, going higher again." This was it, finally Zade was gonna get his cake and eat it.

Vivi scowled at the results.
"Well, shit," she muttered. Five never made a guess but still appeared to be considered successful. She didn't understand it, but she was glad for him. Maybe she bit off more than she could chew?
Vivi let out a huff through her nose and crossed her legs.
"Son of a bitch..." she hissed, then hesitated for a moment. "Whatever. Lower."
That first loss had her buzz wearing off fast.

Selena lost this round. Goddamn it, this was why she never gambled. Part of her wanted to back out now but knew she couldn't or shouldn't. And so she took another long sip, trembling fingers resting over her shuddering lips.
"S-Shit," she uncharacteristically cursed. Everything about her tonight was uncharacteristic though, wasn't it?
Dread filled her slender form and she whimpered, her voice small and an octave higher, "Lower..."

"House total is 13," the man said with a nod. For a moment, Christa would see her second card as a 9, putting her total massively above and indicating she was correct. However, after she blinked, she'd realize it was, instead, a 1, putting her under the total and making her incorrect. "This means we've got a success now for Five, Leon, Selena, and Vivi. Miss Christa, you have failed one. And Mister Zade, this is a neutral round. Mister Five, you no longer are required to sit in."
For reference:
Christa: 1 pass 1 fail
Five: 2 passes
Leon: 1 pass 1 fail
Selena: 1 pass 1 fail
Vivi: 1 pass 1 fail
Zade: 1 pass
Once again, the cards were reshuffled, and once again, they were redistributed.
House card face up was a five, the other face down.

Christa grumbled, glaring at the Gambler, "You changed the total." She runs a hand through her hair, just now seeing the danger that she put herself in. With a few moments to think she just mumbles the word, "Higher."

A second round passed? So the first success wasn't a fluke...
Five was worried, but a success meant he wouldn't lose anything, right? Still, there's no way this was a good sign of anything. The gambler, who strangely knew everyone's names without introduction, told him he no longer had to sit in. Sweat dripping from his brow, he would look at Vivi and whisper good luck to her as he backed away to the table he sat at before.
His heart was racing, and he was trying to remain calm. What did he win from a success? What if it was some trick and he ended up like that poor soul from before? The entrance wasn't far, and he was considering booking it.

Looked like she won this round. Vivi froze for a moment when the short haired woman claimed he changed the total. Now that she thought about it, it would be ridiculously easy for this guy to do so considering his flashy magic tricks. And somehow Five passed without participating?
This was starting to smell like bullshit.
Vivi looked at Five and mouthed ‘What the fuck?’
Gritting her teeth, she turned back to the man. If he was playing dirty, then chances were she’d lose this round no matter what. Now that she thought about it, the guy he’d sucked the life out of called him a cheat too. Vivi wanted to kick herself. She was an idiot for being so impulsive, but she'd already agreed to the terms.
“Higher,” Vivi snapped, fixing the man with a death glare. |

Oh fuck. She was even now. This was a real nail biter. Selena felt sweat bead down the back of her neck.
Finishing the last of her drink, she closed her eyes and took in a shaky breath. This was it. "H-Higher."

"I did no such thing," the man would remark with a smirk in Christa's direction. As he did so, the cards once again lit up in that familiar manner.
