(This is a timed minor event. Every 24 hours there will be a response with or without everyone's input. Once every participant has posted the GM will respond. There is a 2 week deadline before the event will close and be ended if an ending is not reached sooner. There is no limit to participants for this event.)
The Copia Mall... site of a recent terrorist attack finally opened back to the public in a big way after the investigations ended. The mall had taken a reputation hit and needed a way to attract business again. Lucky for them a game developer living locally had just finished a hardware and software release and offered to host a big give away to promote the official release of a new adaptation of a well known hand held title "Fate of New Earth".
This new title was going to release on the new VR Headset developed by this company Malice Entertainment. "Fate of New Earth: Dimension Gate", the new title exclusive to the "Omni Ordinance" VR Headset, which is comprised of a visor that appears to be rather trendy sunglasses that comes in multiple colors attached to a pair on "nunchucks" for button input. It is 100% transportable and doesn't require you to move around to play allowing you to play anywhere you want. The battery life is guaranteed at 8 hours with a full charge. The visor even has built in ear plug headphones so no one else can hear what you do, it also has a setting for motion tracking in your upper body based on height and body scans the glasses take every microsecond. Even allowing you to upload your body scan and place your avatar over it.
A green haired man with a cane would be standing at the event presentation with signs, cardboard cut outs and employees all ready at multiple stations before he would walk to a spot to be seen and heard through the speakers.
"Hello everyone and welcome to the Omni Ordinance test drive. Today will feature the Fate of New Earth: Dimension Gate early access for you all to try today. But, there is great news today. I just got word that while supplies last, everyone who comes up here to try out the headset and game will take home a free Omni Ordinance Console and copy of FoNE: D.G to take home with you right now. How does that sound, huh?"
The crowd would roar with excitement and cheers as the man riled everyone up.
"Let's bring up the first few people to pick a headset and dive into the new world of FoNE: D.G!"

Free gaming console. Free game. VR. All sorts of good words in Nagi's mind when he heard of this event and he was one of the first people there. After the shitshow he had to deal with, a bit of new fun was just what the doctor ordered. Fate of New Earth? Icing on the cake.
On his way there (as in a few hours before he even showed up to ensure she got the memo) Nagi would message "Gears" about the event and call her happy antisocial ass out to show up or get left behind. Friends they are, teammates a lot of the time too, but Nagi and "Gears" are also super fucking competitive between each other and this? This sort of thing is golden.
So yeah. He showed. A Fate of New Earth shirt, jeans, tennis shoes, pockets loaded with wallet, keys, phone, pepper spray, and multitool. Ready to just enjoy a few hours away from this reality in a new one.

Gidget was shaking, standing closer to Drake than she usually did. She was wearing Scott's hoodie with the hood pulled up over her head. Her bare arms were exposed, but her hands were tucked into the pockets of the hoodie, where she fiddling with some fidget spinner she had gotten herself on a whim. It wouldn't help her, but maybe it could distract her somehow. She wanted to be here and look around, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen. Her paranoia was eating her alive.
She took a deep breath, feeling the crowd and the energy suffocate her. She ducked her head, the imp ears of her hoodie hanging low, and clenched her jaw to keep herself steady. She hadn't said much since leaving her shit hole of an apartment that morning, and had barely responded to Drake's prodding.
She looked up for a moment and searched for the hallway that might lead into the back office... the one that she couldn't hack into. She didn't want to go there, but she wanted to know where it was at least.
"I can't believe you talked me into this..." she muttered under her breath, and moved up as much as she could to try and grab the stuff. The quicker she got it, the quicker she could get out.

Drake stood close to Gidget but wouldn't touch her. He could feel her unease. But this is what she needed. Exposure therapy. The only way she was going to get stronger is by facing her fears.
"You wanted me to help you learn to fight. Part of that is being strong enough to stand your ground no matter how afraid you are. So, today, you are going to face your fears. And as a reward. You'll get a fun new video game and some tech to play with."

Leon was in line... Yeah so what if the head of a major criminal yakuza organization was a huge video game nerd. Ya'll can suck a dick. He was excited for this innovation to finally happen. VR. Not just a stupid huge clunky headset and some sort of roller coaster type cinematic playing out. This was going to be a legit role playing game as well. Leon was a long time player of FoNE, and with this new version dropping on a VR console he was very excited. When they announced fully free after the test run... He just about screamed.

Video games seemed to be kind of... For losers? Areon wasn't sure how he felt about them honestly. He had played a bunch of video games over the years, but they just seemed so mindless. And the convoluted titles were beyond extra. Fate of New Earth Dimension Gate? Do these people not notice how filled with who care that is? It's like they are trying to be edgy when their life is all gumdrops and rainbows. Fuck it though, this shit is free.

Valo couldn't remember the last time he had a day off, and as he was in the mall to do some last minute checkups on things, he noticed the line for Fate of New Earth. He played a little of the original in the past, before life got a little too hectic for his liking. The VR tech reminded him of the stuff his sister was working on, and you couldn't really beat free.
He felt bad about giving his employees late paychecks, but maybe a free VR console and game would help people feel better and liven the office up a bit, for better or for worse. Least he could do, and so he waited in line, looking dreadfully bored but lowkey excited to give this a shot.

Post by Dr. Selena Sullivan on Jun 24, 2020 20:24:28 GMT
After a relatively short but intensively addictive stint Selena had with a particular RPG back in her childhood, she had sworn off video games, afraid of going through something similar in her additional adolescence and adulthood, and the last thing she had wanted was detrimenting her studies and work. While Selena came across as rather controlled and refined, and largely was, she had hints of an obsessive, addictive personality lying beneath the surface and she had to take great care in taking everything in moderation. Except, of course, her studies and work, where her obsessive need was most obvious. Yet the young doctor found herself at the apparently free early access of some game the busy woman had never heard of, and back at the mall not long ago she had been in while it and all of the inhabitants went under the attack of what she could only presume was a bio-terrorism attack. She stood in line next to Ken Okazaki and, looking over to him, wondered how the hell she found herself here given all of the extenuating circumstances. Something about overcoming fears with another survivor and subsequent friend and having a good time, she was sure. Yet the normally smiling woman found herself grimacing, tense with anxiety, fingers gripping nervously at the ends of her boho-chic dress. Well... on the bright side, Selena supposed she could gift the free system and game sets to her younger cousin for his birthday. She was sure he would prove ecstatic. But Selena wondered if it was all really worth it and momentarily contemplated if it might just be better to fork over the mini-fortune it would probably cost when all of this came out. Forcing herself to speak in an effort to calm her nerves and to be polite, she asked Ken, "So, ah... are you... a fan of this game and been looking forward to it?"

Post by Ayden Black™ on Jun 24, 2020 20:36:01 GMT
A man in a black hoodie stood in line a about 6 places in front of Leon . The man had been waiting patiently, quietly allowing the anticipation within the chairman build up. Then with a small smile on his face, the man spoke to someone near him in line.
"I'm so hype man. Lucky we got in before the cutoff."
"Oh yeah dude. Can't believe we got 47 and 48."
"Yeah.. Feel bad for anyone after 50..."
"Can't believe they even let them line up."
The two men shook their heads almost in unison. They had spoken audibly enough for Leon to hear this. Obviously Ayden had no idea about any cutoffs, but he did want to torture his Boss. He hated working for the yakuza, but he did his due diligence. Over the years, Ayden had found out that his boss was what he would refer to as a weeb. He had played small pranks on Leon over the years, having magical girl figures delivered to his office, photo shopping Naruto headbands onto his social media pictures, or even getting him a life sized Hatsune Miku blow up doll at the Christmas Party.
But now, Ayden was going to attempt to make Leon feel so hopeless about the situation that he would leave before he even got a chance to play his beloved game.
Meanwhile next to Ayden, the man's phone would go off with a small notification, "VenMe: Ayden Black has paid you $20 for "

Post by Vivi Eris on Jun 24, 2020 22:24:34 GMT
Vvi wasn’t there during the disaster at the mall, but ended up there on this specific day out of curiosity and well... she needed a new jacket. Her favorite one had like seven holes in it. The purple haired woman paused when she heard a man with green hair announcing a test drive for a VR system and a new game. She wasn’t super into video games but she liked technology. If anything, a free device of that caliber could be sold later or she could set it up at Avarice’s base. Vivi blinked a few times. For a split second she could’ve sworn she saw that little bitch Valo but either she lost him in the crowd or she was imagining it. Probably the latter. Vivi shoved her way to the front towards the green haired man and looked at him, brows upturned with interest. Hopefully he’d let her have a shot at it, but she had a little too much pride to raise her hands and beg to be chosen.

"I'll be frank- I have no clue what this game is."
Ken would give a small shrug. They had been passing by and his curiosity had gotten the best of him. At one point, when he was younger and his mother homeschooled him, video-games were his best form of entertainment in his downtime. As he grew older, he had drifted away from them. Time would pass and he'd occasionally see ads for cool new technologies, however he had never had the time to dip his toes into them.
"Haven't touched a single game since I was a child.. This is suppose to be some kind of experience though, right? Why not give it a try.."
VR, he assumed was Virtual Reality. Movies had pitched similar ideas years ago so you could say he was at least curious enough to see if it lived up to the hype. Who knows, maybe there could be some kind of benefit to using one. Besides, lately he had spent most of his time drinking alone when his day was done. Maybe this would provide some much needed entertainment at home.
"What about you?"

The man noted the crowd approaching and getting into it so he would have the technicians gather everyone they could for the first round of tests, have them pick a color for their Omni Ordinance and get it calibrated to them. Having them input their height and weight, and before putting the visor glasses on have them move a blank doll of themselves around on a screen in front of them using the left nun chuck. Then have them pick things up and interact with random objects using the right nun chuck. Finally sliding the visor on their would be sat down to remind them not to walk on their own. They would find themselves in a digital space looking at that blank doll to create their avatar, which would then be loaded into Fate of New Earth: Dimension Gate where they get to choose a class, for now it simply states four options. Tank, DPS, Magical DPS, and Healer. Once chosen it would be like they were in a whole new world, three blue sigils would appear in front of the eyes as they are all loaded into the same area. Seeming like a domed stone structure with dim sunset light passing through the few openings acting as windows into a vast ocean. People would be decked in armor and weapons to match their chosen class. They would see a blue spotlight hit a single Man holding a large rifle in his hand. "Welcome to the Dimension Gate room. Here you can access a basic store, and the Gate that will allow you to travel to a dungeon. Today I will give you all the key to enter a dungeon with a boss battle. So, please approach me and prepare to enter the dungeon." To the eastern side of the dome was a stall in the wall with a Large man holding a pig an NPC merchant no doubt. However the man with blue hair would hold a hand out for everyone to reach out. Should they do so a notification would pop up and a green key would appear in their hands. "Dungeon Key Acquired". "Unlike other games where you can only use a key once, or a dungeon where only you or your party members can go if you go together. Every key goes to a specific dungeon and as long as you have this guy you will all go to the same place. By the way in the field no one is safe, there is friendly fire. In the dungeons you can fight whoever and whatever you want. That is how the game works. You can work together to defeat the boss, or kill each other. There are other dungeons in this world, other dimensions to visit, for now let's move tot he dungeon these key's unlock." And like that a huge golden portal would appear in the center of the room. "Any questions?" (So you can choose your in game appearance, your character stats will share your pc stats for simplicity sake. Magical DPS have a single ranged elemental attack of your choice that does your highest stat in dmg, and healers have a healing spell that does the same.)

Ken would choose a black Omni Ordinance system and begin the process of calibrating it. He would stop here and there, asking questions because he had no clue what the hell he was doing. Eventually he would slip it over his head and stare blankly at the options present to him. He knew not what these terms meant.
*Did he get to become a physical tank? That seemed unfair. They were armored and shot explosive ordinance. Not easy to be taken down.
*The only DPS he knew of was not at all family friendly and he assumed the magical kind was just a fantastical version.
*Healer? That seemed pretty obvious and most likely what his friend Selena would chose.
He would sigh after a few minutes of staring blankly and then pick the tank. Without the proper explosives, his enemies stood no chance.
He would pick *random* on his appearance because it didn't matter what he looked like if he was inside a tank.
It wouldn't take long until the device activated and Ken's senses were overtaken when the world sprung up around him. He would gaze about, listening to the man with the big gun who had begun to speak to them all. He was confused as to where his tank was, but maybe it was waiting for him in whatever dungeon they were suppose to be going to.
A notification popped up in his eyes and it took him off-gaurd for a moment as he swiped at it and realized he had a keycard in his hand. He would stare at it briefly before he began to look around. It only sunk in now. How was he going to find Selena?
"Uhh.. S-Selena..? Are you around?"

Nagi was one of the first to get settled in to the game and accustomed to how it operated, choosing a green system. He was one of the first to show, and a grand majority of his free time was, well, playing video games. It didn't take him too long to form his avatar; using himself as a base, he modified the avatar to look suitably older with enough appearance changes to make it distinctive, mainly the type of clothing and the bull horns at his head. For a class, he decided to go the magical DPS route. Tanking was fun, but in a VR game that wasn't gonna fly; way too adrenaline fueled. Same for being up close in general, so that left out melee DPS, and he had no desire to be a healer. Healers must die after all, general rule of all MMOs. So, magical DPS with a light element. Because there was so much that could be done with light... Naming his avatar/character 'Mongoose42' he would snag a dungeon key from their helpful guide and then assess the rest of the crowd joining in. He paid only half attention to their guide: beyond the whole free for all in the field bit, was standard tutorial talk. He took note of the stall with the shopkeep, and the obvious portal forward, but there was no way he would go through immediately; his choice of class meant going first was suicide, for many reasons. Instead, he was assessing the crowd. Seeing who acted like a complete newbie, who acted confident, and seeing if he could pick out any friendly faces... or names, because if Gears didn't show he was gonna laugh at her for a week.

Post by Zade on Jun 25, 2020 6:00:58 GMT
Zade showed up late, extremely late. Standing next to him was a young boy who was about twelve. "Pretty long line." Zade said as he chewed on his gum. "Here kid, take this money. Go over there" He pointed off to the side of the line that would face away from him. "Let people know you got free money and make it look good." He said as he handed the young boy a stack of money and gave him a pat on the back ushering him towards his destination.
The young boy did as told, he ran over to the designated spot then turned toward the whole line. He smiled and then began to skip around in a circle shouting 'free money is the best money' as he tossed paper bills into the air. A few people fell for the trick, but nowhere near everyone. Regardless, Zade simply walked past most of the line when people were distracted. Once the boy ran out of money he promptly left without a peep.
Zade on the other hand would manage to make it towards the front and secure a headset. "Alright... lets see what this is all about." He said as he stepped up to try on a visor. Before having the visor placed on his head Zade lifted a hand up to halt the technician, he looked at the other participants from behind his sunglasses. "What a weird group of people" He said aloud as he shook his head before having the VR headset fitted. The color of Zade's Omni Ordinance was shiny gold. A tutorial directed by the technicians would soon follow.
After a few preliminary questions and some uncomfortable shifting, Zade was loaded into the game. A few different classes to choose from "Magical DPS" He said as he then created his avatar, which interestingly enough looked exactly like and was named Sauron. Equipped with a Necronomicon that had a bloodshot eye on it. For his element, Zade chose corrosive. The blue spotlight that highlighted an NPC caught Zade's attention. He would accept the notification and retrieve a dungeon key. While the NPC merchant was in the middle of explaining the basics of the dungeons and PVP to everyone else. Zade decided to walk around and behind the NPC. He crouched then stood up then crouched again, still getting a handle on the controls, Zade attempted to pickpocket the NPC merchant silently for some good loot before joining the rest of the players. Once the NPC finished talking a gold portal would form in the middle of the room.
"Yeah, I've got a question." Zade said as he rose his hand. "What happens if we die? Do we respawn?" Any facial expression he made wouldn't be seen as his face was hidden behind a mask.
