Having come straight from work, Selena was dressed perhaps a bit more professionally than even the classy woman would have normally been for an evening of shopping with one of her friends, adorned in a modest black dress and black sheer hose and close-toed heels.
It was the Monday after she had gone out to dinner with Seth and her friend's surprising confession. It had been a whirlwind, leaving the woman with a great deal to ponder over. After staying at the Adelram estate over the weekend as a friendly retreat and reprieve from her troubles and the two coming to work together, at least one coworker had ideas and had proceeded to express them. The nosy woman had noticed the two leaving arm-in-arm for dinner, how they had been sharing lunches, and that they had come to work together, and during the day had asked Selena if the two were an item. It was not exactly much of a stretch to conclude, but, given Seth's request and suggestion, she had been left even more embarrassed and flustered than she probably would have been otherwise. Selena was still decidedly not ready to make a decision on that front and was even more grateful than before she had made plans with her friend Qui the week before to go shopping and have dinner. A lovely distraction from the anxieties regarding the city and all that she had seen that plagued Selena on her own... and from her indecision regarding dating one of her best friends.
Thank goodness for girls' nights! Selena definitely didn't have enough of them.
The doctor traveled across town and made her way to Qui's sweets shop, closing her eyes and taking in the delightful smells as she stepped in. Selena didn't eat sweets too often, but when she did, she got them from Qui. She also made sure to buy from her when giving gifts to her coworkers over the holidays and for birthdays.
When she saw her friend, the woman offered a wave to her younger friend. "Hey Qui! It's so good to see you~ How are you? Did you get plenty of customers today?"

"Dinner time! Dinner time!" Qui chanted to herself, excited to be closing up the shop early tonight. She actually made dinner plans with her dear friend Selena and was extremely excited to catch up with her. What with their jobs and all happening in the city, it had been quite some time since the two of them had any time to catch up.
When the bell on the door jingled signifying someone walked into the shop, Qui almost groaned. Almost. She knew she had forgotten to turn off the light of the shop's sign and decided to quickly flip the switch to it before someone else walked in. Her back was turned to the door so she hadn't seen that it was Selena who had walked into the room. "Just a minute~ Welcome to Atelier Sweets! What can I--" she stopped mid-sentence as she turned, relieved to see that it was her friend and not some curious customer for once.
"Na-na!" the younger woman's eyes visibly lit up as Qui called out to her friend with the nickname she had given Selena when they were younger. "Ahh, I'm so happy you're here! How have you been??" Qui practically leaped over the counter to give her friend a hug. "You look stunning as always! Hehe, the guys are gonna be soooo jealous when they see that you're my hot date!" she joked with a wink.
"Business was the same as usual! I got all my usual customers and some new ones too! Although to be honest, I think one of them only comes by to see one of my workers. I'm not complaining though-- They always buy!" Qui's choice in fashion tonight was a bit different from Selena's, but to be honest it sort of fit the aesthetic of her business. Cute sweets and a cute outfit? What could go wrong?

Selena's expression brightened as her friend addressed her. There was an endearing childish quality to Qui that the doctor found refreshing and sweet. Selena had always been resoundingly studious and often quite serious, and she had been surrounded largely by similar types starting from a young age. Qui was so excitable and more carefree, her zest for life and passions clear for all to see. As contained as Selena could be in some regards, she admired those qualities in her friend and enjoyed her thoroughly. Selena could relax.
The young woman eagerly accepted her friend's hug, embracing her tightly back. "And I'm happy to be here! It has been too long!"
Pulling away, Selena gave a half-smile, scratching at the side of her head. "Oh, you know, crazy busy. It feels like I am always working with how everything has been as of late."
Selena had always been busy, if not working directly on the job than finding a community project to be apart of. She kept herself that way. She had less of a problem with her increased hours than her anxieties and troubled thoughts and being on her own with them. But the young woman hardly wanted to start things on a sour note.
Offering a warm, full smile, she inquired, "How about yourself, Qui?"
When Qui complimented her appearance, the doctor gave a bashful smile and thanked her. There was a small blush at her friend's jest of jealous men, but because she was reminded of her other friend's confession and that, if she agreed, Selena would be his 'hot date'. It was an embarrassing prospect, one she wasn't sure how to feel about, but Selena shook it off with a laugh at the joke.
"I'm happy to be," she replied back with a giggle.
Yes. There were no strings attached there or potential expectations. It was comfortable. Safe.
With the chaos of the city, part of Selena had wondered if her friend's business might have suffered. But she was delighted to hear that that proved to not be the case. Not only did her regulars come, but she was gaining new customers, as well! Selena beamed at the news.
"That's great! I am so glad!" she replied cheerily, keeping an arm around her friend and in a partial embrace. Selena glanced down at her friend, looking over Qui in her sweet dress. Stylistically, they were worlds apart, but both appreciated fashion and had their own fantastic tastes. Qui's style couldn't have fit her any better! She complimented, warmth and affection in her voice, "And you look cute as always~ Your dress is absolutely adorable!"
Pursing her lips, Selena proceeded to inquire, "So... where have you picked for us tonight?"

At Selena's compliment of her fashion a smile graced Qui's features, her cheeks flushing a rosy pink color. "Awww, thanks Na-na! Y'know if you ever want one I can totally hook you up-- You'd look great in one of these!" though Qui knew it wasn't the style that Selena usually reached for, she wanted to offer it to her all the same. Besides, she had always dreamed of seeing Selena in more fluffy, frilly, and cute attire. Though the sleek, elegant and sexy look truly suited her!
Qui moved a little closer, wrapping her arm around Selena's waist as she was kept in the embrace. Qui kept the embrace as she walked to the front of the store with her friend (in this sort of position!), shutting off the lights of the shop and heading out the door. With her other hand, the shop owner fumbled with her keys before locking the door of the shop.
Upon being asked where the two of them were going to eat for the night, Qui pondered for a moment as she walked down the street with Selena in tow. "Mmm, it's so hard to choose! All food is so so good! We could go for sushi... Or maybe pasta?? Ooh, but Mexican food sounds great too!" the younger woman pouted, "I'd say we should go to all of them but I know your stomach capacity isn't as big as mine!" Qui laughed, patting her tummy with her free hand.
"This street has so many restaurants, but thankfully mine is the only sweets shop-- Otherwise I might be in trouble!" she noted as she glanced around the brightly-lit streets. "All these places are super good, I've eaten at them all at one point or another! Is there anything in particular that you're craving?" Qui asked, her hand squeezing Selena's waist where she was holding onto her, a big grin on her face.
