Stevie took a sip to wash down the bite. "So, WR is what you prefer to be called then? Thank you for telling me. I appreciate your willingness to be open about that." She KNEW from a few days prior that WR did NOT like telling people things. They were a secretive person. Asking their sexual nature was FAR beyond asking a name. This was something she would wait for whenever WR was ready to share. Both names were, in all respects, for both sexes. "I usually go by Stevie. Though most call me Doctor." She'd chuckle at her little joke. If WR didn't laugh, she'd apologize for the lame joke. "Sorry, that was pretty lame, huh?"

WR would just grin, nodding in response to her next question.
"Some people say WR doesn't roll off the tongue, so they demand for something else to call me. Or just make something up." They'd shrug. They didn't really care most of the time, but there were a few names that were simply off limits. Permanently. No exceptions.

Stevie scowled. "I think that's very rude to demand someone to come up with something for them to call you. One can not pick out a name for another. Only mothers can do that. And even then, the child can always change it to their own liking." Stevie shook her head. She needed to get off her soapbox.

WR would just shrug.
"I usually go with whatever unless it's derogative or one of the off limits names I have. Trust me, there's plenty of those." They'd take another sip of milk.

A shrug seemed the closest to a smile WR would give Stevie this early in the morning. "I try to go with whatever I am told. So, WR is fine for me." She'd take another bite. Butter n waffles.YUM

"Yeah, I respect that." They'd say with a mouth full of pancake.
They had to give it to Stevie -- she was a really good cook.

Stevie ate in silence for a moment, finishing half her waffles.

"Hey, you mind if I ask you a question?" They'd sit back and cross their arms while they asked.

Stevie looked up from her waffles. "Sure." She was open to any questions.

"Might be strangely personal, but I want to know about Leon. Like, what's he like outside of work? I told you he found me laying on the boardwalk, bought me lunch, and gave me a job, right? I just want to know... why." They paused briefly.
"It's kinda been shoved down my throat that I have a LOT of potential to be strong in a variety of ways, and I'm starting to realize that, but he gave me a decision to make and I think you can help me make it."

Stevie leaned back in her chair and put down her fork. "Forgive me for speaking directly. Leon... He cares a lot about people. He saw you were young and homeless. Obviously not due to something you've done wrong, but to the world doing you a wrong. It's also that..." Stevie shifted in her chair. "Well, you and his son. Y'all were about the same age when he died. Leon hasn't forgiven himself for his son's death. If Leon has elected to get you to a point where you can prove your worth, then trust him. You are worth it. He is never wrong. Some people end up not making it because they don't believe in themselves." Stevie took a drink of juice, "Does that answer your question?"

WR would blink. To be completely and totally honest, they had no idea Stevie was capable of saying something so... inspiring. But, they could see the chemistry between her and Leon. They both cared a lot about people... maybe too much...
They'd nod.
"Actually yeah, it does. Thanks." They'd say with a smile as they finished the rest of their pancakes.

It was Stevie's turn to blink. She hadn't expected WR to smile. She smiled in response a little less than immediately. "You have such a nice smile. I hope you'll smile a bit more often." She paused and her smile faltered. "Not that you have to smile."

WR would blush slightly. It was kind of ironic that they couldn't take compliments...
"Yeah, well..." They'd find no words at the end of their sentence and just shrug instead.

Stevie would let sleeping dogs lie. So she decided to pick up her fork and finish her waffles. "Did you like your breakfast? Would you like more of anything? Milk refill?"
