Ariadne should've known things wouldn't have been that easy. She felt the wind get knocked out of her as she was backhanded and hit the floor with an unceremonious thud and a groan of pain.
She heard Haji call out her name, but it was an afterthought as soon as she felt things crawling up her skin, biting and nipping like little bugs. She let out a gasp of air and stood up, her head ringing... everything felt fuzzy and the edges of her thoughts were frayed with disorientation.
In a moment of clarity, she'd frantically brush off what she could of the critters as she walked with heavy footsteps back to the light-- her only tangible thought being that she was still in danger in the darkness and that she needed to get rid of whatever was crawling on her.
"Ah, fuck," she spoke with a hiss, a hand going to her head as she gathered her bearings.
She saw Haji, bloodied and injured, and Loie at risk, too, but the tug in her heart-- shattering at the sight of her lover appearing so broken and hurt-- planted the seed of conflict within her. "Haji!" Her heart told her to help him, make sure he was okay, but she knew she needed to act. Defend. Help Loie and maybe, maybe figure out some way to take this guy down.
Addy charged-- knowing full well that her attempts would be futile-- straight at Malldick from the side, shoulder first in an attempt to maybe knock him over or throw him off his groove or something.

Loie squinted at the only word she could make out on the container. “CTPAX.” What did that mean? She’d have to research that later—
“LOIE! BEHIND YOU!”
Haji’s voice rang out behind her and Loie whirled around in time to see the demon crashing towards her. It felt like her heart shrank and fell into her stomach while her blood turned to ice. She couldn’t move.
But she had to.
With Haji’s warning and Addy’s charge as a distraction, Loie would attempt to duck underneath the swing. She let our a shrill scream, both arms crossed over her head. The sudden movement sent her phone flying out of her hand and it would slide away leaving her and the machine in darkness once more. If she successfully dodged the attack, Loie would then roll out of the way and onto her feet, immediately falling into a sprint back towards Haji and Seb. She’d whip a small black pellet out of her pocket towards the monster.
Part of her wished Seb would get back up like he did before, but she saw him again, writhing with a bandaged throat. Haji was a crumpled mess, and she didn’t imagine Addy’s charge would be fruitful though she was grateful for her efforts. Her mind suddenly shot back to what the masked man at the mall told her. 'Face your fears… next thing you know you’ll be home…' something like that. The masked man was not someone she trusted in the slightest, but at the moment, there wasn't much she could do.
“Face my fears...?” She murmured to herself.
Loie straightened her posture and looked at the mall man again with her eyes full of tears. He was definitely coming for her next and there was nothing she could do about it. Haji and Addy could be brave, why couldn’t she?
“I’m… I’m not afraid of you!” She yelled, “Bitch!”
Loie was shocked at herself for saying a bad word, but dismissed it for the time being. If she had to go down now, she wouldn’t go down like a coward.
(Black Pellet: This pellet appeared in your pocket after investigating the gruesome crime scene. You don't know what it is or how it got here, but it never seems to leave your person, no matter how often you throw it away. Once per thread, you can throw this pellet. When you do, roll a d100, post your result, and tag Zi.)

As the man walked, part of his body remained where it was, splitting off from the source. As the flesh was torn, it rapidly mended itself, forming two of him in the area that they could see. The one who stayed behind looked down at Haji with a grin, and rose a leg so a foot was roughly a yard above Haji's head. In a blur, the man would take on the appearance of Haru once again. "Maybe there's hope for you yet. I look forward... to breaking you." With that, the foot would come down hard, striking Haji's head with enough force that the ground beneath it would crack and splinter.
Loie was able to duck out of the way of the attack as the man's body was pushed aside by Ariadne, and with a swiftness that betrayed his large frame, he whirled around to grab the woman who'd interrupted him by the neck. As he did, the flesh around his hand would contort until it completely covered her neck. "You... I'm immmpressed... with yyyou too..." With a laugh, he'd lift her over his shoulder and slam Ariadne into the ground harshly. Then, he'd lift her, and slam her down again. Over, and over, until a foot deep hole formed in the ground and Ariadne was unconscious.
When Loie threw the pellet, the second body would snatch it out of the air and eye it curiously. "Of course," it said, no longer taking on the look of Haru, but of one of her old classmates. "You were there, weren't you? And you have no idea what this does... Allow me to show you."
The boy would laugh, kneeling down to Sebastian's squirming body, and break the pellet over his mouth. The dust fell over his lips and tongue, and he was made to swallow it all. Within moments, he began to convulse more violently and scream as he did so. His clothes were torn open as strange growths started appearing all over his body - but she could see the wound on its neck healed.
"I - AGHH! NOO! L-LOIE! RUN!"
A sickening CRACK! could be heard, as Sebastian's body seemed to be lifted off of the ground. A strange spike formed out from his spine, and his eyes rolled back into his head. For a moment, his body fell limp... and then, from the palms, spikes of bone forced their way out. The spike in his spine retreated back into his body, and he turned to stand upright, facing Loie. His torso was littered with holes where bone protruded, and his mandible slowly split in half. As it did, Loie would see his tongue extend a foot and a half out from it, and with eyes that appeared blind, he began to walk in her direction.
"The others didn't get much playtime... but you will," the classmate said with a sickening smile as he watched what was Sebastian approach Loie.

Addy barely had time to react to what was happening before she felt herself get grabbed by the throat. In a moment of final clarity, she managed to glance over to see Haji get stomped into the floor, and her heart nearly stopped. Her breath and her voice left her, unable to call out to him and looking on in horror, before she felt herself meet the ground below. She felt her consciousness fade like a blink, her last thoughts being that she failed Haji and Loie.

That voice again. Haru.
Haji looked up, his brown eyes staring through the shades of red that covered his face. A glint of defiance and anger was visible as he saw the visage of his older brother once more. The long, black hair hardly obstructed the cold, icy glare in his eyes. The foot was just above his head, as if it were a guillotine ready to execute him where he lay.
"Do your worst... break me. But know that I am coming for you... and I am going to erase you."
Haji spat out, facing his would-be end with as much dignity and honor that still remained in him. His threat was not a veiled one, however. It was a promise. He was going to survive this. He was going to get stronger.
At least, that's what he kept telling himself, even as he stared an imminent death right in the eyes. As the foot came down, the last thing Haji saw was Ariadne being held up helplessly.
He failed her. By the kami, he failed the people who mattered most.
And it all went black.

Loie willed herself to stay steadfast, even when she found herself screaming into the face of her old classmate Adler. The same boy who’d helped her get back at her brother’s bullies. The same boy who’d come over with Nina to bring her cookies when she got sick. But the way he spoke... it wasn’t him. He’d caught the pellet she threw and Loie’s gaze flicked between his eyes and his fingers. Admittedly, she had no idea what it was. It showed up after the horrible scene she’d found in Old Town with Morei, and she’d continuously wondered if it was connected to the nightmares. But now...
Loie looked to Addy and Haji. Her heart already felt like it pounded hard enough to break her ribs, but now red began to creep into the corners of her vision. Were they dead...?
“Addy! Haji!” she screamed, then turned in time to see Adler’s demonstration. She started towards him and Sebastian.
“Stop! Stop it—stop it! He’s hurt! They’re all—“ Loie paused and her lip trembled as Sebastian transformed. He called out to her to run, but all she could do was backpedal several steps. She couldn’t look away.
He turned into something the darkest parts of her mind could never conjure up, even in her deepest most hideous dreams. This was all her fault. She shouldn’t have touched the pellet without knowing what it was.
“Sebastian!” she sobbed, “Th-this all my fault....”
She couldn’t imagine the pain he must be in. And she couldn’t tell if Addy and Haji were even alive. Loie failed to be brave, she failed to do anything to help her friends. It seemed like no matter where she turned now, people would die and there would be nothing she could do to save them. Was this her life now?
Loie fell to her knees but didn’t look away from the monster Sebastian had become. She calmly took off her glasses and hooked them to the collar of her shirt. This was all her doing. She only brought misery to the world, and this was her punishment.
“I’m so sorry,” she reached out both arms to him, “I never meant to hurt any of you.”
She glanced at Adler, her old classmate. Another who’d suffered because of her. Then she looked back to Sebastian.
“Let me atone for my cowardice... P-please....”
Loie never thought there would be a day where she’d ask to die. But now, she just wanted release. That peaceful afternoon, she welcomed death with open arms.

Clicking sounds could be heard as Sebastian stepped toward Loie. Even with the light fading from her vision, she could see a slight reflection on the bloodied bone as it snapped together in front of his face withe each step he took. The boy, meanwhile, chuckled to himself, cocking a brow as he looked in Loie's direction. "I'm sorry... do you think it's that easy?" He shrugged, as if in disbelief. "You don't get to die. Not until you lose everything."Sebastian pulled his arm back, and rapidly shoved it forward, the blade protruding from his palm ripping through Loie's chest with incredible ease, as though her own bones were butter to this blade. She would feel as if her body was on fire. Her last breath slipped from her lungs, and her skin began to quickly go pale. Her veins became clearly visible, and blackened. The whites of her eyes turned to red. For a moment, she would be able to see, inside of this thing that used to be Sebastian, he was trying to fight it - but he was failing. That vision lasted only a moment, before the blade was pulled away, and Loie's body would hit the floor. Darkness came to her, and it came to all the others as well. When finally they awoke, it was unclear how much time had passed for Ariadne, Haji, and Loie, but they woke up at home, in the clothes they last remembered going to sleep in. Only, their bodies were in pain. There were no visible cuts or open wounds of any kinds, but further inspection would reveal dozens of terrible bruises. Later, if they were to enter the bathroom, they would find the letters "CTPAX" written in blood on the mirror. The sink would be full, and at the bottom of it would be a picture of Sebastian in a hospital bed. Ariadne: +3 stats. Mark of the Guardian: +2 Str. Cannot be removed. Does not take a slot.
