You always felt like you could be faster, more agile. Perhaps today is the day you prove that feeling right.
Objective: Showcase your character in a test of agility. This could be anything from a simple morning run, to running from authorities, or mimicking your cat at four in the morning when people are trying to sleep. Show a semblance of growth relative to your character with a proper beginning and end. There is no minimum word count, but effort is encouraged.
Location: A place of your choosing.
Possible Reward: Up to +3 DEX.

A young Leon would approach the training field. Not only was this a speed testing obstacle course, but you had to be agile and precise with it. Ledges, jumps, holes. You had free reign to run the gauntlet however you wanted within the boundaries. You have to make it to the other side, but at the same time you have to prevent the person on the other side from making it to your side first. To do that you can tag them, which means they have to run to on of the checkpoint posts they have already past and touch the top. You can only use a checkpoint post once and there are only 4.
His opponent was a friend growing up, one of his cousins who was also training to one day join the family business. The light turned green to signal the start and Leon took off making as much of a bee line as he could, leaping to the side and grabbing a pole to swing around, jumping against a wall to jump off of it and pick up some speed, leaping through a hole in a wall and rolling back to his feet. If there is anything the young Leon was good at, it was agility and acrobatics. He went by the philosophy that if he were faster, more agile and couldn't be hit, he could hit his target way more and avoid having to worry about taking damage.
For years he had been practicing this test against his older brother, who was so far the fastest in the family at this test. Holding the record, which made him the perfect training partner. Leon's brother was a beast when it came to this course, and training with him out in the city like he did using the unpredictability of the world at large meant this course and this test would be much easier. However his opponent today was determined, not as agile it seemed or prone to acrobatics, but efficient and quick witted. Leon saw that even with his abilities in here, one mistake could cost him the entire race. It also seemed like his opponent was not going to let Leon take his chances as she suddenly adjusted course right for him. This meant new maneuvers were going to be used and the straight line tactic was no longer going to work. As she got close Leon had to move diagonally to avoid her.
This set up the chase as she struck out to try and tag Leon, he leapt up to a ledge and pulled himself out of the way and took off. However, she followed right under him as if knowing his course, so he leapt down with a simple flip to try and catch her off guard and tag her instead! She expected it however, or simply reacted fast enough it seemed so by throwing herself against a wall and spinning with the momentum of the impact she reached out to tag him from her spin. Leon rolled out of the way and slipped under a hand rail barely getting on his feet before she landed right next to him, reaching out he tagged her leg and she tagged his back. They both looked the way's they had come from... It wasn't good.
Leon was further into her territory and his checkpoint post was further away. They both took off towards their closest posts and calling back to his training instead of going to the closest one he went to the furthest, he knew his advantage of being faster and more agile would come in handy if he could force the double tag again. He knew, somehow she was going to hit her closest checkpoint post, once he hit his furthest post he immediately kicked off of it to go the other direction with extra speed. He had to find her and get past his other checkpoint post to force the double tag again, and this time he would have to give chase. She would be further into his territory for sure and that is exactly what he discovered when he did find her.
He went right for her without any hesitation or feinting. She was very close to his closest to the center checkpoint post. If she got past that he would have to run all the way back to his start. She knew that too and redoubled her efforts and determination to get away from Leon. They weaved like serpents through the obstacles narrowly avoiding each other and possible tags, until it happened. Leon saw a ledge and threw himself off of it with disregard for his personal safety to tag her in mid air as he fell. She had heard his movement and also went for the tag while flinging herself forward. They tagged each other once more and they both crashed to the ground rolling into a heap, pushing up through covered in scratches and road rash in parts they looked around. Leon saw his closest checkpoint post, was maybe feet away. With wide smirk he ran over with a small limp and tagged it, as soon as he did he locked eyes with the opponent who was wide eyed and narrowed her eyes at the blonde.
A new chase was on, she could still tag him now as they ran towards her furthest checkpoint post, which meant he would have to go all the way to the start and from what Leon saw she wasn't limping either. His left thigh hurt from the impact, but he would have to push through it. Running and jumping with everything her had, he wouldn't look back or worry about where she was he followed his training and went for his straight line. He was in a trance of focus and perfection until suddenly he had passed the line to the other side and was breathing heavy. Behind him actually by a few seconds his opponent hit the checkpoint post, but the race was over and Leon had won... The training had paid off, and he had learned what it took to be like his brother, the fastest of them. He had to keep pushing himself.

Small brown eyes carefully watched the flowing motions of two adults in the midst of an empty room. Music echoed throughout it, released from an old-school silver-tubed record player. Classical music of some kind led the dance Kenjiro Okazaki's parents were currently embroiled in. He had watched them many times, yet still found enjoyment and beauty in their movements. He couldn't help but wonder if he would be good at it, as good as either of them.
Eventually the song came to an end, signalling the final dance before his father would have to leave for a few weeks. Ken was accustomed to it by now, it would be fine and his father would return before long and take him out to make up for lost time, as he did every other time. He would watch his parents say their goodbyes and stand to give his father a hug before he left to catch his cab to the airport.
Shortly upon returning to the same room as before, Ken followed his mother inside and she would move to change the record on the player. It was here that the younger boy would sheepishly approach his mother and ask her a question while she was in the process of picking out which record she wanted to listen to next.
"Mom, can you teach me how to dance like you and Dad?"
"If learning interests you, of course! Would you like to try today?"
Ken would nod, smiling at the same time, the excited child bouncing as she ushered him toward the center of the floor. She would smile in return, following up by putting a new record on the player and letting the music play.
"Alright. We'll start with something easier, a Waltz. Traditionally, it starts a little different but we'll just work on some basics today, that okay?"
"Alright, mom, what do I do?"
"We'll start with the Box step, since it's fundamental to learn. So stand beside me first and watch how I move and copy me."
Ken's mother would step forward with her left foot as she counted out one. Then she would bring her right foot forward and to the side, counting two. That would be followed by closing the step, by sliding her left foot to meet her right. She would essentially repeat that process backwards, having danced in a box shape.
Ken would attempt to repeat it but it would take him several times to get the pacing down correctly, often finding himself stomping or his movement too jerky as he moved. His mother was quick to try to redirect him in the process and help him fix his mistakes.
"You're still putting a little too much 'Umph' in your step. You have to be graceful in your movements, even as a young man. Dancing is about.. Fluidity. Agility, not so much about strength in most cases. Try to move.. like a cat. Do you understand what I mean?"
"I think so.. Let me try again!"
Ken would do his best to take her advice, work on his timing and stepping lighter. While it wouldn't be perfect, after an hour or so he would be doing much better than he previously had. He enjoyed it enough to know that this would only be the first lesson. She would teach him much more in time.
Within the next few lessons, he had become much more agile on his feet, his movements fluid enough to the point there was little hiccups in their basic routine. While it wasn't super common for kids his age to participate in such thing, Ken actually didn't mind it. More importantly, it allowed him to spend time doing something other than reading books or schoolwork with her. She was just thrilled because 'he would make some pretty girl really happy someday'. Yuck.

Paranoia.
At any moment, the mist could come pouring out of the person next to her. It could come out of the vents. Maybe her own mouth. Loie carefully traversed her usual path home after getting off bus at Old Town. Her body already felt weak and drained of energy after a long day of work at Silverwing hospital, and there wasn’t a sliver of natural daylight left. It was scary enough being a woman walking alone at night, but there were much bigger threats than normal nighttime predators.
Loie clutched her taser in one hand and her shabby kitty keychain in the other. She dared any suspicious figures to came for her. She dared them. First they’d get electrocuted and then—Well, Loie thought she could probably bring herself to use her taser, but she really didn’t know if she had the capability of stabbing someone. Maybe if they were scary enough and she knew for sure they were bad. Something shifted behind her and she span around, but all she saw was empty side walk as far as the street lamps could reach.
Loie’s heart pounded and she backed up. She swore she heard something. Even saw something out of the corner of her eye. She could be imagining it. It could be anything. Some scary pervert. The mist. She had no clue but she didn’t want to find out. Loie turned around and began speed walking. The slightest crunch reached her ears and she broke into a run. Her nose stung with tears and she breathed heavily. She was so sick of feeling alone and helpless. One of these days something would kill her.
Loie ran as fast as she could but her legs burned and it felt like her legs would give out. She worked an active job, but never typically ran anywhere. If she didn’t pull herself together she’d never make it.
I need to leave this city! Loie told herself. It could be the city itself, or just her situation ever since leaving her hometown that made her feel so hopeless. What if leaving Anthem City didn’t solve anything? She’d met a few nice people here, and then she’d have to start all over again.
Loie’s breath began to come in short painful rasps, but she kept going. She couldn’t shake the idea that some horrible monster would burst forth at any moment. Loie finally reached her apartment complex and raced up the stairs to her room, fumbling to get her key in the door. She slipped inside, locked herself in, then slumped against the door.
The air seemed to scrape the inside of her lungs and it felt like her heart was about to explode. Loie sat on the floor and began sobbing, still out of breath. She was going to die soon. She could feel it. She was weak, and helpless. Retribution was coming, soon she’d pay for her sins. Maybe she was finally getting what she deserved? Loie tried to run from her problems, that could be why all of this was happening. It was her punishment.
Loie wiped at her face but the tears just kept coming. Crying was just about all she was good at.

Post by Vivi Eris on Jul 29, 2020 3:12:34 GMT
Vivi kicked her feet up on the table and tried to ignore the blood oozing out from the shadows covering the corner of the room. She was dressed in a suit with the blazer undone and the tie loosened. Her katana was sheathed and rested across her legs. Vivi leaned back in her chair and massaged her temples with gloved hands. Her only consolation was he was an evil bastard, but only a few levels worse than the mobsters she called a family.
Vivi placed both her feet on the floor and slid the attic window open. The night was almost over, she just had a few more things to clean up before this problem was neutralized. She leapt down into the yard below and walked through the small forested area between the house she just left and the one behind it back onto the road. After about five minutes of walking, Vivi noticed headlights shining through the trees near the house she just left. That was a little unexpected. She’d planned for the other resident to be at work, but it looked like they must’ve been sent home early, or they suspected something.
She turned away and reached out to open the passenger door of a black sedan parked near the curb. Slamming the door shut, she turned to Cadmus.
“Someone just came home, time to go."
“Ooh,” he hissed, “Losing your touch there, huh, Viv?i”
“I will cut you,” she replied, letting out a soft laugh.
This was something she could worry about later. As of now she had something personal to take care of, but it wasn’t too far out of the way, considering she was technically at work. About ten minutes past before she spoke again.
“Turn on left on Lawton, I’ve got something I need to do,” she said.
Vivi looked straight ahead but glanced sideways at Cadmus. The corners of his mouth quirked up in a smile as he made the turn. She had a feeling he knew what she was thinking. They worked together so often, they were almost telepathic. As cheesy as that was.
Vivi instructed Cadmus to park off the road and turn his lights off. They’d have to wait in the car for a while, but it wouldn’t be too long.
“Someone piss off the boss’s kid?” He asked, sticking his lip out in a mock pout.
“The hell does he have to do with anything?” Vivi scoffed, “I take care of my own problems. But yes, someone messed up. Big time.”
Technically, they were a couple of lower level Avarice members. But they’d gotten too confident, and she knew people couldn’t say jack about it if she taught them a lesson. While Vivi was completely aware of her terrible temper and impulsive tendencies, she usually didn’t waste energy on people beneath her. But these bastards made Wendy cry. Seriously? Commenting on a sixteen year old’s missing eye? Petty shit. No, worse than that. Their inflated egos might’ve been amusing if they weren’t picking on kids.
Vivi caught the faintest gleam of light in the distance and exchanged glances with Cadmus one last time, flashing him a smile. She slipped out of the car and crouched behind it. Once light sufficiently flooded the street next to her and she could clearly hear the engine, she leaped out from behind the car. The approaching vehicle tires screeched as it swerved around her and she slipped whipped her sword out of its sheath. A single slash and a half a second later, two of the vehicles tires on its left side were out. The vehicle careened off the road and Vivi dashed back to the car and jumped inside.
“Go go go!” She barked, but she couldn’t stop herself from grinning. Vivi didn’t plan stuff like this out much, so she was kind of shocked it worked out. She almost tripped and ate shit mid swing, but no one had to know that. Vivi and Cadmus scream sang along to the radio on their way home, ignoring the roaring flames of their enemies’ defeat behind them.

Post by Dr. Selena Sullivan on Jul 29, 2020 22:36:06 GMT
Location: Montana countryside Date: Summer 2005
Father left for a conference and had to be away for the weekend and mother left to go to the neighbors for a visit. Selena had been invited to join, but declined, the twelve-year-old preferring the idea of skipping in the fields and keeping the company of the animals. She might have liked the conversation another time, but it was a gorgeous summer day, with rolling clouds thick like cotton candy and the sky bright like a bluebird.
Selena ventured away from the back of the house, heading in the direction of the fenced acres where the horses and cattle roamed. Her bare feet glided across the cool grass as the girl practiced the movements of her most latest learned dance routine. Her maternal grandmother would be visiting from California the following month and Selena hoped to delight her with a new foxtrot number. The girl hummed the tune of the song, hands raised in the air as if with her partner, movements fluid as she stepped to the internal beat. Selena halted mid-twirl as a crash and whinnies and stomping resounded in the air, her blue eyes immediately seeking out the source. And they widened.
A large, threatening tree limb crashed into part of the fence and three of their horses jumped the broken railings and fled in fright out in the open fields. Her mother by now was at the neighbor's, which was well over a mile away. If Selena left to seek out her mother, by the time they came back, it was possible the horses might venture too far out. They were not far from the mountains, and there were bears, wolves, mountain lions, and other large predators. While they might have been fine, there were plenty of potential dangers in the Montana countryside, as beautiful as it was.
Their collies started barking at the commotion, rushing ahead, and, going over towards one of the nearby posts, Selena grabbed a lasso and bolted towards where their horses had run. She didn't have long to run before coming across the first. Their bay roan Appaloosa, Dakota, was the first to calm and the mare merely munched on grass. Like her namesake, she was the friendliest and most easygoing of the horses and Selena knew she had little to worry about, slowing down to a jog and then a walk as she approached the mare. Petting the haunch of the horse, the girl clicked her tongue and gently held the underside of Dakota's jowls, and the mare followed suit, needing little incentive to follow.
After bringing Dakota back to the barn, Selena ran out again and, following the sounds of one of their collies barking, she eventually came across their Friesian mare. Noire was spooked by both the earlier crash and the dog nipping at her heels, trying to herd the far larger animal. Selena snapped her fingers and shook her head. "Wesley, settle down! Come on!"
The dog snapped to attention and went to the direction the girl had pointed her finger and snapped, sitting down and panting, wagging his tail. Selena looked back to the black beauty, who was twitching with nerves and whinnying, trotting short distances before circling back. Selena held her hands up and spoke in a soft voice. When she first approached, the Friesian bolted and, first making sure Wesley kept away, jogged to the horse. This went on a couple of times before Selena decided it was time to use the lasso, managing to rope the mare with her first try. Selena pulled the horse closer, holding onto the rope gently but firmly, and stroked her muzzle and forehead, all while shushing and cooing. Noire snorted fearfully at first, clearly still frightened, but she was ultimately a gentle giant and docile and didn't resist. She was ultimately eager to return to the safety of their home.
After she felt the Friesian was sufficiently settled, Selena clambered deftly onto the mare bareback with a surprising ease, given the height of the horse and the size of the girl. But she had been around horses her whole life. It was nothing to her. Whistling to Wesley, the auburn-haired girl leaned forward and removed the lasso, squeezing her calves to urge Noire forward. Before long, she had the Friesian stabled, giving her a treat. She thought to saddle one of the horses and look for Sampson, but decided to go on foot. Looking to Wesley and their other collie, Lily, Selena squatted and pet them both.
"Will you help me find Sampson? Hm?" she cooed, smiling at them. Standing up, she added, "Let's go. Come on! Sampson. Let's go get Sampson!"
The intelligent dogs seemed to understand what she wanted and started quickly moving ahead, and Selena jogged after them, lasso in hand. It took longer to find the thoroughbred, having run out far after the collision. The girl had worked up a bit of a sweat and wiped her forehead with the back of her head. Before long, the large, bar gelding came into view. As Selena approached, she immediately prepped the lasso and slowed. Even after being gelded, Sampson proved still hot-blooded and was the most difficult of their horses to manage. Usually it was her mother who handled the large horse, as she was the most adept at doing so, but it was up to Selena now. Letting out a sigh, the girl prepared herself to lasso him. But Sampson's brown eye caught sight of Selena, giving her a knowing look, and just as she threw the lasso, he bolted. Grimacing, Selena ran forward in the direction he sped off towards. When he slowed, she tried it again. And failed. Rinse and repeat.
As the gelding ran and she was forced to chase after him, her hair whipped behind her and her white summer dress billowed. She kept having to go full-speed, the wind blowing loudly in her ears, heart pounding as all she could do was wear him down, or try to. Sampson seemed less frightened and more like he was playing a game and taunted her, but Selena refused to relent and let him win. The sky had darkened and thunder rolled as signs of a summer storm approached. It was as though the atmosphere mirrored the mood and her struggles.
Lungs burning and her auburn locks plastered to her sticky flesh, Selena collapses onto the field, chest rising and falling heavily. She wasn't giving up, but... just a break. Just a little break. Her legs felt like they were on fire, as did the rest of her. Yes... just a tiny break. Then she could keep going.
As Selena lay there, doing her best to catch her ragged breaths, rain began to fall. In contrast to the hot summer air, the rain was cool and the girl closed her eyes, enjoying the sensation. She opened her mouth to catch some of the rainfall, feeling particularly parched after her long, repeated chases. A few minutes had passed and Selena heard through the pitter-patter the familiar sound of heavy hooves approaching. When she opened her eyes, Sampson looked over her, near enough to where she could touch him. Heaving a sigh, Selena pouted and remarked, "You're... just a big bully, aren't you? You weren't even scared, were you? Did you do this to tease me?"
Sampson snorted and Selena closed her eyes again, letting out a short laugh. "Of course, you did."
With a groan, the girl rolled to her side and pushed herself into a wobbly stand. By now, she was almost completely soaked through and Sampson was both glistening for sweat and the rain. Hesitantly reaching forward, almost afraid he would bolt again, Selena rested her hand against the thoroughbred's haunc. Yet he remained still, giving no indication of giving chase again. It looked like he had had his fun.
"Will you... let me ride you?" Normally, only her mother could ride him, or wanted to, at any rate. But Selena was exhausted and wanted to get home quickly. Sampson moved his head and looked her with one of his brown eyes. "I'll... take that as a yes, then."
Her movements started out hesitant, but the bay didn't budge and soon her motions grew more confident. Before long, the girl had clambered onto his back and Sampson moved on his own, heading back home. Wesley and Lily followed, and Selena leaned forward, embracing the base of the thoroughbred's neck. They both had gotten their work cut out for them and had quite the exercise, and, as the group approached the barn and home, Selena could hear the frantic calls of her mother. How long had they been now?
Weakly raising a hand, Selena waved towards her mother, catching her attention. The woman looked surprised at the sight.
"Kitten? Are you alright?! I saw the fence and- You should have-!" her mother rushed forward and began rambling. The girl was tired and had largely tuned her out.
Selena scratched at the back of her head and gave a reassuring grin. "Hey, mama bear. I'm okay. We're all okay. We're home now~"

Priority Target Capture
Here Rai was, for one final time, in his Raijin Gang disguise with a hood, face mask, and sun glasses. This time he had to be extra careful to hide his features as this time it would be him getting up close and personal with the target. After his last mission Rai had sent back the two men that Leon had sent him to help he couldn't have anyone else's blood on his hands. His hands were stained enough for one night. If he fucked up this one, he was going to handle it himself. No more putting others at risk. He waited in the alley behind club that he had gotten a tip that his target was at. Some would be up and coming weapons dealer. Not only was he stepping in on other people's territory but he had a bad habit of selling to anyone, including kids... and after a night like this one... that was something Rai found he was strongly against. VERY strongly against, his body was fueled with so much anger and hatred that he could feel his body getting stiff. That would do any good. He started popping his knuckles, and stretching out his leg, thigh, and arm muscles. He heard this guy was a quick and slippery fuck. So, Rai's best bet was to grab him the moment he saw him and take him down quickly. Rai stretched a little more and hopped in place. It wasn't a particularly cold night, but there was a slight bite to the wind and he was feeling really susceptible to it tonight. All he could think about were those kids lifeless eyes looking up at him. They were only there cause Rai had the big brained idea to pay them off... If only he had kept it them out of it... No, no time to think about that. Not on a mission. While on mission your focus stays on mission! Fucking focus Rai! He took a deep breath to calm his mind and his nerves and let it out...
*CLANG CLANG*
Rai's eyes snapped open, that was the sound of the back door being opened, who the fuck was- then his target turned to face Rai and froze. Rai froze in response as well. This wasn't right! Rai's intel stated that while the target took the back alley's he always exited out the side entrance since the back was for employee's only! However that's when Rai would notice that the man was holding a suspiciously heavy bag in his hand. He just robbed the safe of the club! Just as Rai's lightbulb came on his Target also realized that he had just been caught red handed and immediately started running away!
"HEY WAIT!"
He called out as if the dude was really going to stop! Then he too would begin running after the guy down the alley way! Despite having a head start Rai would find he was actually catching up to his target rather easily! Turns out trying to run with a bag of loot in your hands without warm up stretches is a bad combo that leads to you be slower than your pursuer! That was just fine in Rai's eyes and he ran at top speeds. Seeing that Rai was catching up but still a good distance behind him he would grab a trashcan and yank it down to block the path! Rai sees it and is prepared and easily jumps over it. Rai was making good time as he got closer to his target every second when he was just about in arms reach the man would take a hard and sharp turn right! Rai has to break slips a little in a puddle costing him time as he adjust to start chasing him down the new Alley!
"Shit!"
The man now feeling a little more confident with his lead takes the time to climb up a dumpster and use it to jump over a chain link fence, Rai notices a wooden crate just before the dumpster and uses it to launch himself onto the the dumpster and over the fence, but lands hard, his legs are tingling, he is definitely going to feel that in the morning... but he continues to chase man who seemed to be heading towards a busy street! The target being a cocky bastard thinking he has the lead stops to turn and watch as Rai clears the fence and lands before he started running again into the busy street! He clears the street just barely as a car screeches to a stop blaring it's horn at him, Rai couldn't help but let out a laugh, he had always wanted to try this and as he ran through the street just narrowly dodging cars he jumped up and slid on the hood of the car to continue to chase his target!
"HAHA! Hell yeah!"
He exclaimed unable to contain the excitement he was feeling! The man panicking as he heard Rai's laughter trips and runs right into a woman who screams and holds onto him for a moment trying to avoid crashing into the ground the man panics and flails and swings wildly to get the woman off of him before he finally gets free and makes his way towards another alley, Rai calls out.
"MOVE COMING THROUGH!"
Between the woman's scream the targets flailing and Rai's calling out most people stopped walking to see what was going on allowing Rai to pass through freely without running into someone! The target disappears into the alley and Rai follows! As he rounds the corner in to the new alley he finds that is a dead end. But... his target is no where to be seen... Rai pauses for a moment breathing hard taking a moment to catch his breath.
"Now... Come on out. You've got no where else to run, so lets just do this the easy way."
There was nothing but the sounds of street cars.
"Hard way it is..."
Rai mumbled to himself. He started to slowly make his way into the alley way, damn what he would give for a flash light, best he could do would be his... Lighter! Rai reaches into his pocket and pulls out his lighter and uses the small flame to have some semblance of light in the dark alley way, still too many shadows to see everything though, Rai still progressed slowly however, when he was about half way through the alley he would see a dumpster, if he was a 'criminal mastermind' he bet that's where he would choose to hide. So, ever so carefully Rai went to peek at the side of the dumpster... however he wouldn't get to complete that action for as soon as the man saw the light of the flame creep around his protective dumpster he jumped out and tried to hit Rai with the loot bag! Rai dropped his lighter but easily caught the bag and threw it out of the man's hands and onto the ground! The man went for a punch but Rai dodged it with ease, this man, unlike Rai, was not used to lots of physical labor and this chase apparently took everything out of him. Rai counter punched his fist hitting the man square in the face dazing him. Then to finish him off Rai grabbed the man's arm and used it to flip the man over Rai's should and slam him into the ground.
"Nighty night."
Rai said as he bent over to pick up his lighter. Then he would lean against the dumpster and slide down to the ground. It had been... a long night. He whipped out his cellphone and called Trinity.
"Hey, finished the last job. Have Uncle send a car to my location to pick up the target..."
Rai looked over at the bag of stolen money and chuckled.
"Oh, and tell him that I also got him a surprise."
With that he would hang up the phone and pullout a cigar. He would pull down his face mask put the cigar in his mouth and light it. Taking a good long drag off of it. Holding the smoke in his lungs before letting it billow out into the cool night air. He sure was out of shape... a chase like this 4 years ago he would've caught the man when he tried to do that hard turn. Rai had lost his edge... Good thing he had Trinity to help him take on missions like this to get him back on the field, get his blood pumping once more... He had forgotten just how much he had enjoyed his field work.

[[This SPQ bounces in and out of my other SPQ's. For the best experience please read it in its entirety here.]] Part 3: Dexterity Training Code: I
Dropping my bags inside of the dojo’s grounds, Master Shin quickly ushered me towards the back. I knew what was coming. The previous challenge was just to gauge where I was currently at. From here on out, the real hell was going to begin. I tightened my shoes as we stopped at the base of the mountain path.
“To Point A and back. Go!”
Master Shin shouted and so without another word, I ran. Point A was only about 300 yards away from the start point. Typically Master Shin reserved it for running quick sets successively. While still fairly steep, it had the smallest inclines of the different Points my master had designated through out the mountain range. I was just glad he was only making me go to Point A. I wanted to focus on conditioning my physical capabilities a little bit more before I had to worry about the traps Master Shin had setup. I let out a sigh of relief as I ran.
Whomp
Before I could even register what happened to me, a log came flying through the air at me. It caught me right in my gut. My eyes widened as I lost my breath and nearly 50 yards when the log sent me soaring back before I inevitably tumbled down the mountainside some. Damn that hurt like a bitch. I could hear Master Shin chuckling from below. I guess this training wasn’t going to be the same as last time.
Getting back up to my feet, I once more began sprinting up the mountain. I slowed down so I could remain a little more cautious. It appeared there were only log tracks setup along the trail to Point A. I guess I should have counted myself lucky seeing as how he reserved the more dangerous traps for the other Points.
I wish I could say the first log was the only one that caught me off guard, but I was struck a few more times along the path up. The only plus side was that I hadn’t been set back as badly as the first log by any of the following ones. It seemed I was at least remembering how to properly move with the blow and shortened my recovery time. By the last one, I actually managed to latch onto the log and used it’s backswing to propel myself further up the trail. Reaching Point A, I slapped the goal post before sprinting back down the mountain. On my way down, I couldn’t help but notice that the traps had reset themselves, not that they would really do much when I was running in the opposite direction of their swing. I doubled over once I reached the base, panting and rubbing my stomach.
“Too slow! Again!”
I nodded wordlessly before I began to run the circuit again. My time on my second run was considerably better than my first, but that was only because I managed to avoid another major setback like the first log. It still wasn’t good enough, so he had me run the circuit again. My third run actually ended up taking longer than my second, so I was sent up the circuit again. This continued on until sundown, but every run was within a second or two of my second lap.
Part 7: Dexterity Training Code: II
“Go!”
I started at the base of the mountain, launching upwards as Master gave his mark. The traps were moved around constantly. I wondered how faster Master had to be moving to change them around without me noticing for a moment, but quickly refocused myself. I side stepped out of the first log and continued pushing upwards, increasing my pace.
The other logs that came up on my way to Point A were made quick work of. It had to have been weeks, and my reaction time was increasing. Adding a little flare, I once more used the last log to swing myself directly on top of the monolith at Point A. As I landed, I immediately launched myself off of it, heading towards Point B. This path had pitfalls, bear traps, and tripwires attached to some more nefarious traps.
Luckily I had already spotted the first pitfall, and calculated my jump off the monolith with it in mind. Rather than landing on the ground, I grabbed a hold of a tree branch and used it swing myself further. The longer I spent off the ground, the fewer traps I had to worry about. I propelled myself in the direction of a tree, before running along the curve of the bark until I positioned myself to once more propel myself forward.
However my momentum could only go for so long, and the monolith for Point B was starting to appear within my view. I touched down along the ground and moved swiftly, keeping a close eye out for any traps. A pitfall nearly got me, but I managed to catch my feet against the side of the pitfall and propel myself upwards at a diagonal to escape. Pushing my speed, I slapped the monolith at Point B, feeling something brush against my leg. Nice I just had to make it to the bottom of the mountain. I looked down to see what had brushed against my leg, and noticed a snapped trip wire. I looked up to see a massive boulder rolling slowly in my direction.
“…You’ve gotta be kidding me.”
I turned around and bolted, jumping over the pitfall. I looked behind myself, and the boulder was gaining speed. It had already crushed through the monolith. Explosions went off behind me, apparently I had managed to dodge the landmines but even they weren’t enough to stop this boulder. As the two of us continued running down the hill, the boulder rapidly gained speed. It was going to be faster than me soon and it was wide enough to take up the entire path.
I had to think. There was no way I was going to be able to outrun this boulder altogether, and I needed to stay on the path so I wasn’t going to be able to move out of the way. I shook my head as I decided to go with the only plan I could think of. Launching myself into the air just before the boulder caught up, I landed on top of it. Quickly my feet began moving with the boulder as it rolled down the hill. This was ridiculous, and this boulder was gaining speed rapidly which only made it more difficult to run on top of.
I couldn’t argue with the results however, as we promptly steamrolled every trap the master had sent. We crushed the monolith at Point A before we began the descent down to the base of the mountain. Even the logs weren’t a problem since they were designed to swing at human height. This boulder crushed everything in it’s path as the Dojo came in to view.
“GAIN WAYYYYYYY!!!!!”
Master Shin looked shocked as I went around the last bend and come propelling at him with the boulder. He sighed and put a hand out stopping the boulder before it shattered to pieces and left me falling on my butt. Master looked down at me in disbelief.
“So uhh… Time?”
30 seconds quicker than my last run and nearly 2 minutes faster than my first run to Point B. Given that it was 700 yards altogether, that wasn’t too shabby. I passed.
